IT (Software) Salary Survey
Here are the results of an informal salary survey conducted by me amongst my friends (feel free to question the scientific basis for this survey…) The survey was conducted during the weekend (15 and 16 July 2006) amongst my friends in the industry, and here are the results:
| Â | Salary (INR) | |||||
| Designation | Experience (Years) | Respondents | Minimum | Maximum | Median | Mean |
| Software Engineer | 0 | 4 | 120,000 | 300,000 | 162,000 | 186,000 |
| Software Engineer | 2 | 2 | 300,000 | 330,000 | 315,000 | 315,000 |
| Software Engineer | 3 | 3 | 480,000 | 540,000 | 540,000 | 506,667 |
| Software Engineer | 4 | 3 | 660,000 | 700,000 | 660,000 | 673,333 |
| Team Leader | 4 | 2 | 720,000 | 750,000 | 735,000 | 735,000 |
| Team Leader | 6 | 2 | 840,000 | 900,000 | 870,000 | 870,000 |
While I would not claim this is a scientific, accurate or comprehensive survey, this should give you a rough idea of what you are worth, and as such should prove to be useful.
There were a few more designations that had just one respondent (blame it on my networking skills), and have been omitted in this result set. However, the complete salary survey is available as an excel file.
Update: All respondents are working in Bangalore. So perhaps this could be called the Bangalore IT Salary Survey. People working in the same company as me, have not been included as it would greatly affect the average.
