Why is Zune not available in India
Okay, am saddened/disappointed/frustrated…
Was waiting for Zune release and it finally happened two days back. As expected Microsoft has released the product for US only. I think it should be available in EU sometime soon. But considering the fact that MS has only recently (a week back) released Xbox 360 in India, I guess it would be safe to assume that Zune will hit the shelves only by late 2007.
I was expecting some online retailers to have Zune and accept international orders. So first stop was amazon.com, sure they have Zune (and in stock too) but ship only to US. Same was the story with rest of the retailers found through froogle.
Does anyone know of a store that will ship to India? And does anyone know why MS releases products in India so very many months (if not years) after they are available to the rest of the world?

Why you should not buying Zune:

Unless you are a MS fanboy, there are no good reasons to buy Zune.
There are better DAPs including iPod.
It wont play non-drm songs… so forget about playing the latest songs ‘borrowed’ from friends ;)

dotslash, it does play non-DRM songs (unprotected MP3, WMA). I can’t have an iPod because my entire collection is WMA and a few Ogg files, but very few MP3/AAC.
Most of the old rips are WMA, while I use Ogg for the new ones. I know that Zune does not play Ogg but at least it will play most of my unprotected WMA/WMV files.
Any thoughts on iRiver PMP 140 and Creative Zen Vision?

Btw, the reason for the rant was that I think Zune is a sensibly good product. And I just don’t understand why MS can’t release the product simultaneously in India as well. I might have like it and bought it. But looks like its a sale lost for MS.

in one of the links above, i saw:
SanDisk Sansa e130 512MB mp3 player.
* cost around $50
* plays both mp3’s and windows media files
* holds 120 files
* FM tuner with 20 presets
* 17 hours playback on one battery
* SD Flash Memory card slot
* weighs only one pound
* comes with case and arm band
* can be used as external storage device
I’ve not tried this either. But, at that price point it looks like a steal… Perhaps you can use this, till MS comes out with a stable/feature-rich Zune2.0 ;)
