Yes Sajith, you put it better than me. The overall impression of the police force seems incompetent.

Anil, I do agree the media tends to sensationalize news to get high TRP's. But I had lost faith in our system, especially the police force a long time ago. It doesn't take a sensational media news for people to lose faith on our police force.

Apun, I think violence was anticipated. The fact that there were no precautionary measures despite this beats me...
Slim, unfortunately you are correct. Not to say that everyone is incompetent, just that overall the police force gives the impression of being incompetent.
Anil, I don't think NDTV was trying to sensationalize the reporting. Neither do I say that policemen were not attacked. That said, the clip very clearly shows a bunch a policemen brutally attacking a single guy on the streets. Now, please don't tell me that the 10+ police persons present there were having trouble arresting him (if he was involved in a mob) and had to start attacking him brutally as this. Unfortunately, our police force (most of India, not just Karnataka) seems to think that human rights are things that they don't need to conceen themselves with. Remember the Honda strike in July 2005?

Do not keep blaming the police -they did maintain law and order fairly well. Even a kilometer from the center of violence, all was calm. Many policement were themselves injured in the violence-some were attacked with chili powder and knives. NDTV is only interested in fanning the flames and their news reports were highly sensationalised. Sadly, this kind of reporting leads to ppl like Slim losing faith in the police

Well, you know our police force. Very incompetent and lethargic. And when its time for showdown, they end up doing shit like this. I don't have faith in our police, and I guess this incident will only further it.

The strange thing is it was expected that violence will happen but no real police cover or precautionary steps happened.
